What is GPS Surveying?

GPS land mapping is known as an important tool among mapping engineers today. Due to its high accuracy, this device increases the validity of maps prepared from different sources and regions and turns them into reliable maps. Today, the use of GPS mapping in the geographic information system (GIS) is a requirement and necessity, which helps in the accurate and scientific analysis of maps.

The Importance of Using GPS Mapping Land

GPS is a highly accurate and advanced positioning system that uses at least 24 satellites to find the exact location of objects and people. This system was first designed in 1978 for US military purposes. But after years passed and its advantages and capabilities in location tracking were revealed, it entered people's daily life. So that in recent years we have seen its many uses in various industries and fields.

The most important applications of GPS in mapping

Today, GPS land mapping has become an efficient and essential tool in the field of mapping engineering. High accuracy, exemplary speed and reliability of its information are the most important things that increase the popularity of this device in the field of mapping. Because by using it, the mapping work is done with better speed and accuracy and the productivity of engineers increases. The information obtained by GPS mapping is stored in GIS systems and through them, resources can be analyzed. So that decision support systems are implemented in the best possible way. By using GPS in mapping to check high places, there is no need to settle in the highest places. Rather, mapping stations can be deployed at greater distances and the line of sight limitations of the station can be eliminated. It is possible to map beaches and waterways with GPS technology. With this device, very accurate hydrographic maps of depth changes and possible dangers for sailors can be prepared. GPS mapping is very important for creating accurate planning for the construction of sensitive water and land structures, including bridges, dams, oil platforms, etc. GPS surveyors are very important and vital in various industries such as agriculture, transportation, urban development, etc.

The main sections of the GPS land mapping

GPS land mapping system consists of three main parts, which are: The space sector that includes 24 satellites around the earth. This department is responsible for collecting information from different parts of the earth. The control section consists of a powerful system for tracking and locating. This department is responsible for tracking data and analyzing them. The user section is also the final destination for all information available on other GPS receivers on the ground.

Check out the benefits of using GPS in the mapping industry

1- Removal of limitations in the field of mapping: In the past, to map different areas, you had to go near them. Whether these areas were in cities or in nature! Imagine the difficulties that engineers faced to map a mountainous region. Today, with the help of GPS land mapping, there is no need to go to different areas to check them. Rather, mapping operations can be carried out from a distance. 2- Increasing speed in mapping: Another advantage of using GPS mapping is increasing the speed of doing work. So that the projects that took several weeks in the traditional way are now completed in one day. 3- Increasing accuracy in mapping: GPS can be very accurate in addition to high speed. In such a way that by using them maps are prepared with the least possible error and even with point accuracy. However, in the past, most of the prepared maps had serious errors and were unreliable. 4- High access to different areas: definitely one of the big problems in mapping science is the lack of access to all parts of the earth. But it is interesting to know that this problem has been solved by GPS mapping. Because by using this device, you have access to all hard-to-reach places and areas, and there is no longer any geographical limitation. 5- Reducing the manpower required for mapping: the increase in accuracy and speed due to the use of GPS devices in the field of mapping also reduces the need for many manpower.

Types of GPS Recipient Mapping

GPS mapping receivers are found in three different types in the market, which are:

1- GPS Static GPS Baseline

Static GPS Baseline mapping helps the surveyor in finding the static position based on the origin. This system is used to collect precise geographical coordinates information for points on maps. In other words, these GPS are used to find the exact position of a known or unknown point.

2- GPS RTK

GPS RTK mapping consists of three parts, which are: base station, one or more rovers and communication channel. The task of the base station is to monitor the satellite signals and send information to the rovers through the communication channel. After this step, the satellites determine the exact location of the desired location from a fixed reference station. Finally, the observations of the receiver and the reference station are combined with each other and the coordinates are measured.

3- GPS Continuously Operating Reference Stations

GPS mapping Continuously Operating Reference Stations is a continuously operating reference station. These devices use a powerful mapping GPS receiver at a fixed location as the starting point in all calculations. The target receiver collects field data and combines it with CORS data to finally perform positioning. The most common use of these GPS is in mining projects and huge construction projects in the private and public sector.
